Therapy Modalities

I use a variety of therapy techniques. Here I briefly explore the main therapy techniques I am trained it.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT focuses on the trifecta of your thoughts, feelings and behaviors. We explore the impact our own thoughts and behaviors have on our own emotions. We focus on altering negative thinking patterns and unhelpful behaviors in efforts to increase positive mood symptoms.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

This therapy technique uses bilateral stimulation. Similar to the rapid eye movement in your sleep, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to initiate the problem solving process in your brain. This therapy method allows us to process without having to verbalize everything. This is used primarily as an intervention in trauma, but also can be successful in treating anxious distress and depressive moods.

Meditation and Mindfulness

Meditation and mindfulness are used as techniques to aide in both grounding and connection. Through these, we will find techniques to aide in mood stabilization and feeling more connected with our body and the world around us. Through breathing and awareness we will practice staying tuned to our bodies and our surroundings.

Motivational Interviewing

This technique acknowledges the difficult path that making changes can be. Through questioning and conversation, we work through ambivalence towards change and find your internal motivation to continue on your therapeutic journey.

Narrative Therapy

This therapy technique differentiates you from your problems. This encourages the client to take a step back and explore what may be hindering their recovery and continues to encourage the client to view themselves as the expert on their life. Clients are challenged to view their strengths, capabilities, values, supports, and goals. Narrative Therapy empowers the client to focus on what is within their control in efforts to live out their preferred narrative moving forward.

Person Centered Therapy/Client Centered Therapy

Person Centered Therapy uses an empowerment approach to therapy. I incorporate this modality into every interaction. This modality focuses on empowering the client by collaborating to find what will best fit your needs during every session. The client gets to be the expert on their life, and the therapist is there to help guide the client to a more enjoyable

Solution Focused Therapy/Problem Solving Therapy

This therapy modality is used to explore solutions to present difficulties. This therapy technique acknowledges that with proper guidance and questioning in therapy, you are able to use your current skills to solve your present difficulties and find a more fulfilling life.

Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT)

TFCBT uses the foundational work of CBT. By exploring trauma in a supportive environment, we work on de-sensitizing and processing the trauma.
